Accessibility Plan

Prairie South School Division is committed to providing an engaging environment that is accessible and free of barriers for all to participate actively in their respective school communities. In effort to create accessibility, we are identifying and removing accessibility barriers for students and individuals, who access schools, facilities, programs and services.

We know that some students, groups and communities experience barriers that stop or limit their participation in our schools and have needs that may require tailored support and resources.

We are committed to reducing barriers and fostering more inclusive school environments where everyone can fully participate.

At Prairie South School Division, we learn from one another, from our learning environments, and from our communities. We embrace the opportunity to be life-long learners, and understand the significance of learning how to learn.

We are developing an accessibility plan as first step to formalize our efforts and to support our commitment to meeting the requirements of The Accessible Saskatchewan Act.

This act will guide our priorities, budgets and short, medium and long-term actions to advance accessibility across all schools in our division.

We have made significant progress in removing barriers to create foster inclusive, accessible environments in our schools for everyone. However, there is still work to be done, and we will continue to address gaps and improve accessibility.

The Accessible Saskatchewan Act defines disability as any impairment that, in interaction with a barrier, hinders an individual’s full and equal participation in society. It includes physical, mental, intellectual, cognitive, learning, communication or sensory impairments and a functional limitation. These can be permanent, temporary or episodic in nature, or evident or not.

The Act aims to remove all types of barriers that prevent or limit full participation for people with disabilities.
