More Connections are Built! |

Building Connections, a program designed to create opportunities for students with cognitive disabilities by sharing learning and life experiences with other willing and responsible students of the same or similar age, wrapped up their year with a group outing to the Mulberry Estates Retirement Residence on Saturday, May 29th.

The students and seniors played 7 innings of bean-bag baseball and then enjoyed ice cream sandwiches and friendly games of scrabble. Other fun outings the Building Connections members participated in this year included; movie nights at Galaxy Cinemas, RVCI Art Club, and a Moose Jaw Warrior hockey game.

Math B30 students are busy learning about Data Analysis while doing performance stations and analyzing Lays Chips. Mean, medium, mode and standard deviation now have a whole new meaning!

Ms. Wheatley’s ELA 20 class is reading the novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Atticus, the main character, explains to his daughter that “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view…until you climb into his skin and walk around in it” (36). To make this advice more literal the students were invited to imagine spending a day in someone else’s shoes. Each student was given a shoe, asked to envision its owner then write a story about how he or she became separated from the shoe. Then they were invited to read their stories to the class wearing the shoes. It was also fun to guess which teacher the shoes belonged to.

The RVCI Envirothon Challenge team is back from the provincial competition in Eston, Sask. The select team from Riverview’s Wildlife Management class includes Kelly Grass (RVCI teacher), Kandra Forbes (Central), Brittany Godlien (team captain RVCI), Elysia Daniel (Central), Trevor Goettler (RVCI), Hunter Farrell (RVCI-not in photo), and Tammy Myer (Moose Jaw River Watershed).
Sixteen teams from around the province competed on an outdoor trail test and presented solutions to environmental issues based on the theme of ground water. The Moose Jaw team was sponsored by Moose Jaw River Watershed and Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation.
RVCI received the award for Rookie Team of the Year and placed 8th overall. |
