ANOTHER Opportunity To Learn!
In an effort to allow more students to complete and pass their courses at Riverview Collegiate, the school is pioneering a program called the “Credit Recovery Program.” Students who would normally fail a class due to incomplete projects, inadequately completed projects and/ or missing assignments are now given the opportunity to complete those assignments and projects in a timely and sufficient fashion and recover their credit. The program is targeted at students with failing grades ranging from at least 40% to below 50% who are willing to put the necessary work into completing the “original” course rather than having to take the entire course again. |

Ms. Fowler's History 30/31 class did presentations on treaties as their final evaluation for the semester. The students met their SLO by showing that they understand the key societial relationships including the relationship of the society with other societies and the relationship between the people and their land. The students showed in their presentations that the First Nations and the Canadian Government held differing assumptions concerning the terms and meaning of treaties.

Our Math C30 students returned from Christmas holidays to pick up the pieces from the Conic Section. Most forgot about math over the holidays! I thought they might have done some questions as a FUN activity with their families but no go! As a review, students were assigned a section and when they did the review they were to relate their topics to the posted objectives. After, they presented their sections to the rest of the class and posted their chart papers. We are now finishing the section and hope to have our final text next week.

History Happens...wait, should that be happened? |

It’s Great Britain vs. the American Colonists! The History 10 class chose sides to debate in Parliament. Topics for debate were taxation without representation, the Stamp Act, the Boston Tea Party, the Boston Massacre and the Intolerable Acts. Each side argued well to protect the best interests of their individual country, but once a stalemate was reached, there was only a single option left -- revolution!
Ms. Craig’s History 20 class has been working towards understanding the conflict-resolution process as it pertains to World War II. They were in for a treat as Mr. Jerry Wenarchuk showed them different types of pigeons and spoke to them about the role of pigeons as messengers during armed conflict.
One student later wrote about the significance and resilience of these amazing birds by stating: “Pigeons played an important role because they were reliable, inexpensive and were hard for enemies to steal your information. They delivered the message or died trying. They were very fast and could endure the weather. Their job was very important because they saved many lives and kept plans secret from enemies, whereas technology could not.”
