Sportsmanship Award for Mossbank School

Kevin Vollet, Executive Director of the Saskatchewan High School Athletics Association (SHSAA) presented coach Dale Lawrence and members of the Mossbank Sr. Boys’ Volleyball with the SHSAA Sportsmanship Award on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010. Students, parents and staff from Mossbank School assembled in the gymto applaud the boys for representing their school with honour and respect. The Prairie Lightning captured the bronze medal at the provincial championship in November. However, it was the way the boys conducted themselves while at this championship that earned them the special recognition of being awarded the “Blue Banner.”

Celebrate Family Literacy Day

Family Literacy Day takes place every year on January 27. ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation and Honda Canada created the day in 1999 to encourage families to read and learn together. Thousands of Canadians take part in Family Literacy Day events and activities at schools, libraries and literacy organizations.

What is Family Literacy?

Literacy is more than books. There are many ways to strengthen your literacy skills - all it takes is practicing for 15 minutes every day. Reading, writing, playing a game, following a recipe or even singing a song all help prepare children for challenges ahead and sharpen skills for adults.

We're feeling festive!

The students and staff are getting into the Christmas spirit with fun activites planned for the last two weeks of school before Christmas break.  So far we've had crazy hat day, an oven mitt gift game, and Christmas carols trivia.  There are many activites still to come!  The students also sang Christmas carols at the community tree lighting on December 4th.

Pep Rally

pep rally congo

On November 27th, we had a school wide pep rally to celebrate our students' successes.  The students who raised the most money during our SRC magazine campaign were recognized, as were athletes who participated in golf, cross-country running, and volleyball.  The Sr. Boys volleyball led the school in a congo line before they headed off to provincials.  The boys returned with a bronze medal.  Great Job Boys!

Carving Pumpkins

The aroma of raw pumpkin wafted through the school halls last week as students from several classes carved pumpkins.  Mossbank's Artist in Residence, Mark Lowe, taught the grade 5/6 students some techniques.  The grade 1 and 2 students were helped by the grade 9 and 10 students.  Everyone had a great time and the results were very creative, as you can tell from the pictures
