School Community Partnerships Print
Our Partnership Program enhances student learning by providing a link between schools and the community. School collaborations with businesses, organizations and institutions encourage students to apply skills learned in the classroom to a real-world setting and develop confidence and experience in employment and community settings.

Partnerships must be beneficial to students in terms of providing enhanced resources or opportunities, and must follow the Ethical Guidelines for Business-Education Partnerships, established by the Conference Board of Canada. Most partnerships are mutually beneficial relationships in which the partners share values, resources (human, material or financial) and responsibilities in order to achieve agreed-upon learning outcomes.

Typically, successful partnerships are those that:
  • Enhance the quality and relevance of education for students and teachers
  • Benefit all participants (school and business/organization)
  • Treat all participants fairly and equitably
  • Are based on clearly defined expectations (roles and responsibilities)

Partnerships may be broadly based and include the whole school, or they may be program-based, with a narrower focus on a key activity that involves only certain grades or groups within the school. All agreements are voluntary and may be terminated by one or both partners at any time.
