|
Prairie South recognizes the importance of a non-judgmental and family-focused approach to addressing the unmet needs of our students and their families. Our Student and Family Counselling team works with and supports students and their families to help discover their strengths and needs, as well as determine and suggest ways to maintain a more positive lifestyle.
Members of the counseling team include:
- Student and Family Support Counsellors, who support and engage students and families in identifying priorities and developing strategies and identifying supports to help meet those priorities.
- Student Counsellors, who provide preventative and remedial services to assist students to be emotionally and socially available for learning, and to help them function effectively with others in their school, home and community.
- Student Advocate Consultant - Outreach, who provides counselling to middle years students whose behavior makes it difficult for them to succeed in regular classroom, with the goal of equipping them with the skills and personal resources they need to function successfully in the classroom.
- Student Advocate Consultant - Addictions, who provides counselling to students whose school performance is affected by drugs and/or alcohol, as well as to students who are at-risk for substance abuse or addition.
- Student Mentor, who is partnered with students in rural areas of the division who need a positive adult figure in their life, with the goal of helping the student become more engaged in school and community and develop positive self-esteem.
