King George Elementary School

Mrs. Schafer's Grade 6 Classroom is being showcased this week. The teacher's at King George School are pretty amazing! Mrs. Schafer uses her SmartBoard to outline the students' timetable and expectations for each class using "I can" statements.  Students also are shown a timer to help keep focussed and "on-track". Mrs. Schafer often uses the school's Mac computer cart for many of her fun and innovative projects. Jessica and Alexa shared what has been going on with these grade sixers...

In Science....we are doing animal adaptations. You pick three animals and do a slide show. On the first slide you ahve a cover page, on the second page you had to put your first animal and on the third and fourth page you put your other 2 animals.

In Reading....we are reading native legends. Mrs. Schafer gave each of us a booklet with legends in it along with questions that relate to them.

In Math...we are learning about multiples and factors. Mrs. Schafter gave us sheets with questions on multiples and factors.

In Writing...we are writing legends. In order to write our legends we had to read many stories and go through booklets dealing with characters, problems, and resolutions, beginnings in legends and planning a legend. After all that, we made rough copies of our legend that we created. We are now making a picture books usign the Mac computers.

In Social Studies...we are discussing power. We often do reading and then have discussions and sometimes do questions.

In Health...we had the option to make a slide show or poster on with smoking, drugs, alcohol, or good body habits. On the poster or slide show, we have to have 10 facts on the subject, along with pictures. When everyone is done we are going to present in front of the class.
