Saskatchewan schools are required to provide 985 hours of student instruction annually.

Schools in Prairie South meet that requirement using one of two calendar systems - the traditional five-day, Monday-to-Friday calendar, and the alternate four-day, extended hours calendar where most Fridays are not instructional days.

The calendar for the division's Hutterian schools is slightly different, to accommodate colony activities and religious holidays.
