| Long-Range Facilities Plan |

|
In the 2008-09 school year, the Prairie South Board of Education identified the development of a long-range facilities plan as a strategic priority. Developing the plan supports each of the Board’s three goals, particularly that of a ‘Viable and Sustainable School Division.’ The plan – based on the present and future educational needs of students – will help to inform Board decisions regarding maintenance and upgrading expenditures, while providing a sound evidence base for capital facility requests to the provincial government. It will also improve the division’s ability to respond proactively to changing demographics and to changing space requirements at the school and classroom level. Phase 1The first phase in the development of the plan looked at the three Prairie South communities with more than one school: Assiniboia, Gravelbourg and Moose Jaw. The Board held two rounds of Open Houses in each of the three communities, and made changes based on the feedback gathered from these communities. The Board decided in September 2009 to convert Riverview Collegiate in Moose Jaw into a Grade 7-12 facility, and to renovate and add on to Gravelbourg High School to allow all students from Prekindergarten to Grade 12 to attend there. See news release. Both decisions are dependent upon Ministry approval for funding and to determine the time-line. Open House Info
Phase 2The second phase of the plan is expected to go forward in the 2009-2010 school year. This phase will include consultations with other communities in the division. |
