Congrats to Viv Gauvin for representing Prairie South as co-host with WACA for the outstanding work done to organize the Pow Wow on Saturday at Gutheridge Field. Given the historical and current importance of indigenous peoples in MJ, reviving the Pow Wow after a 20 year absence is very important. The regalia, dancing and ceremonies were so very interesting and educational. I appreciated the attention to detail in so many regards: opening ceremony, pipe ceremony, 3 drum circles, variety of dance displays and inclusion of MJ stakeholders including police, mounties, gov’t and so on. Most notable was the pride we observed as we sat amongst the audience – many whom had children and family members right up to seniors—dancing in full, beautifully crafted outfits. Job well done.
